Specimen Prep - Biological
Teeth or Relevant Objects as Specimens
- Seal one side of the specimen holder ring with wax. (An easy method is to slightly heat up the specimen holder ring and to push one side into a sheet of pink base plate wax). By pushing the wax seal up, a shallower space is obtained. However, the internal retention groove needs to remain inside the effective cavity and free of wax. Place a sample identification number in the cup facing the wax bottom.
- Mix a self curing resin to medium viscosity and fill the Cup completely. Before the resin sets, place the sample in the resin and make sure the resin does not flow over the surface of the specimen.
- Use the Centering Ring and Lid to position the specimen in the center of the Cup.
- For bonding studies use the lid to obtain a parallel surface. Allow the resin to cure and rinse the specimen in running water.
